Lead Product Engineer

Full time

Prishtina, Kosovo

About us

Loomery is a London-based digital product agency that helps clients move fast with technology. Our teams combine grounded strategic approaches with deep technical expertise to pinpoint the right thing to build, then make it happen fast.

Since launching five years ago, we’ve worked with large businesses, universities and startups across Europe and the US to design and deliver new digital products and grow their capabilities. In the last year, we’ve worked with Sky, Legal & General, FTSE-100 investment company IG Group, procurement software provider Proactis, branded merchandise retailer MOO.com, and the University of Exeter.

You will join a growing team, led by founders Brett Thornton and Tim Checkley, as the founding member of our permanent team in Kosovo. Brett and Tim are strategy and product leaders with over two decades of experience delivering for organisations including Apple, Visa, NatWest and Tesco. Learn more about the team

We are passionate about creating a diverse company that’s a stimulating and supportive place to work – and one that leaves the planet better than we found it.

We're now expanding into Kosovo, and we're looking for an exceptional engineer to lead that effort from the ground up.

How we work

We seek co-conspirators and love working with people who want to make a big impact and prefer to ask for forgiveness.

We learn by making, putting things in users’ hands earlier to deliver fast results.

We use the latest design, prototyping, research and development tools to slash the time it takes to get v1 out in the world.

We use the minimum amount of process to get the job done, meaning our pragmatic teams are able to move fast and ship early.

We’re coaches and collaborators, building your team's capabilities, leaving you stronger for the future.

The role

This is a rare and genuinely exciting role. As our first hire in Kosovo, you won't just be joining Loomery; you'll be building it here.

You'll be responsible for establishing and growing our Kosovo engineering practice: recruiting and shaping a high-performing local team, setting the technical and cultural foundations, and delivering outstanding work for our clients from day one. This is a role for someone who loves hands-on engineering just as much as they love building the conditions for great engineering to happen.

You'll work closely with Loomery's Head of Engineering, co-founders and leadership team in the UK, as well as our existing Kosovo partner Kutia, and you'll have a real seat at the table when it comes to how this office grows.

You'll be:

  • Leading technical delivery for our clients, architecting and building digital products that scale, working in cross-functional teams, alongside other disciplines like product managers, user researchers, designers, mobile engineers and more.
  • Scaling our Kosovo team, working with Loomery leadership to define how the Kosovo office operates and evolves; hiring Prishtina-based software engineers and establishing an effective engineering culture. We’d also love this role to represent Loomery in the Kosovo tech community, at meetups, and at universities.
  • Setting engineering standards across Loomery’s community of practice, establishing best practices and technical excellence.
  • Mentoring and developing future Kosovo-based engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Supporting business development by contributing technical expertise to sales pitches and client conversations.
  • Balancing strategy with execution – one day you might be designing system architecture, the next debugging production issues.
  • Building for the future with emerging technologies, including AI, spatial computing, and next-gen platforms.

About you

Essential:

  • Extensive software engineering experience with a track record of shipping high-quality products at scale, both as an individual contributor and in team leadership roles.
  • An accomplished leader who can build and lead engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and developing people; you have a clear point of view on what good engineering culture looks like, and the ability to put it into practice.
  • Polyglot developer with proficiency in modern full-stack development, deep expertise in at least one primary tech stack, and proactively experimenting with  AI-driven innovation.
  • Sound architectural instincts you have experience in system design; you know when to reach for complexity and when to keep things simple.
  • Cloud expertise – experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Product mindset – you think through customer experience and business needs first, then determine the technical solution. You can read more about Loomery’s approach to Product Engineering here.
  • Excellent communication skills – highly proficient in English; ability to collaborate effectively with a distributed team across time zones; you can explain complex technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptability – you're comfortable working across different technologies, languages, and problem domains.

Nice to have:

  • Agency experience - Experience working in or closely with a product agency, consultancy, or client-facing delivery context
  • Mobile development experience (native or cross-platform)
  • Startup or scale-up experience in fast-moving environments
  • Interest in spatial computing, AR/VR or other cutting-edge tech

🏡 Flexibility that actually works: We support flexible hours, hybrid working, and we'll pay to kit out your home office with whatever you need.

🧠 Always learning: €300 annual budget for tech and gadgets, plus additional grants for learning activities that align with company growth and development goals. The chance to work with cutting-edge technology.

🌍 Purpose-driven: We believe in the power of technology to help people and offer big discounts to charities like Little Village. We also recognise everyone needs to do more to address the climate crisis, and we offset all the carbon we use.

This year has included a 2-day company retreat in the UK countryside, a talk series and picnic for Mental Health Awareness Week, and go-karting to celebrate hitting our quarterly goals. The company we're building

Our Head of Engineering, Will, wrote about what top engineering teams do differently. This provides a deeper insight into practices and behaviours that we promote at Loomery.

Our company principles are also a big influence on our work:

  • Believe in the Brainweave. We believe the best ideas come from combining diverse perspectives, skills, and experiences. We encourage cross-functionality, active listening and learning from each other. We call it The Brainweave.
  • Be the highlight of your client's week. We care deeply about our clients, their goals, and organisations. We go beyond delivering great products — we build strong partnerships, offer real insight and go further.
  • Just F***ing Ship It (JFSI). We start by making, and we learn by shipping products. Our approach is pragmatic and practical, valuing progress over perfect plans. If in doubt, just f***ing ship it.
  • Wonder what's next. We are curious about what’s next in technology. We explore, tinker and try things out. Then we get cracking to use it to make a world that works better.
  • Run at the hill. We look for opportunities for everyone to stretch themselves and learn rapidly in a supportive environment.
  • Cut the babble. We take complex technical topics and make them easy to understand. Simple as that.
  • Own the outcome. We value those who move things forward, taking responsibility to make progress and solve problems for and with others.
